What To Expect On The Job When Starting Your Cleaning Business

Whenever using any kind of cleaner, chemical or detergent , always read the directions first. Accidents can and do happen but you can do your best to avoid them. Sometimes if a product is not used according to its instructions, it could cause damage to the surface it is applied to. Be careful and take a few moments of caution before attempting to use any new product for the first time.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE JOB

Several things are very important when you begin to clean someone’s home. To start with, it is important to make necessary arrangements with the homeowner as to how to get into the home if they are not there when you show up to do the cleaning. Also discuss how you will be paid if they are not home when you are finished cleaning and ready to leave.

Should you be given your own key to the home? Some people do not feel comfortable giving out a key to their home. Others hesitate to hide it somewhere. Would a neighbor be willing to hold the key for you to pick up? So before you begin, talk this out and make arrangements.

You should also write down the customers work phone number or contact number which may be their cell phone in the event that an emergency were to happen and you need to reach them.

They may be at work or out shopping while you are cleaning their home. Another important thing to consider is if the homeowner wants you to answer their phone for them when they are not home. If you don’t think you will remember a message for them, be sure to write it down.

You will be paid by cash or by check but you should be paid when the work is done. Some people pay by check but many residential customers pay by cash. If you accidentally break something, always be honest and tell the customer what happened. Offer to pay to have the broken item repaired or replaced.

What happens if the customer does not pay you? I suggest you leave them a note and offer to wait and get paid the next time that you do the cleaning for them. You could also offer to come by and pick it up or they could mail it to you.

If you are not getting paid then you would not continue to clean for them until they pay you what they owe you. Here is a sample note which is a friendly reminder note. You can mail it to them or leave it on a counter in their home.
